Concours d’Elegance is derived from the French meaning a “Competition of Elegance” dating back to the 17th Century. Over time, the term has become known as a competition amongst automobile owners being judged on the appearance of their automobiles.
2010 was the first time an event of this nature and magnatude was held in Australia. It provided some of the best Australian rare and classic cars an opportunity to compete for the title of "Best of Show" against other prestige marques.
The competition addresses the accuracy of originality and authenticity of the condition and restoration of these cars and includes features such as:
· Rarity · Design and Engineering · Originality · Authenticity · Proper and Excellent Preservation or Restoration · Historical Significance · Visual Impression
Concours d'Elegance judging is more exacting than that of a general automobile show. Highly respected judges will examine the vehicles thoroughly and in their entirety. They will rate each and every component. Only those vehicles that are judged perfect (or very nearly so) in every way, are considered eligible for trophy class.
The owners of the best unique and classic automobiles and motorcycles from around Australia were invited to submit an application for the inaugural event. The hours that have been spent by collectors repairing, restoring and preparing cars for this competition, were demonstrated as they displayed their vehicles for the general public. Date: Sunday 10 October 2010 (10-10-10)
